Fabio Paratici is to a legal agreement from becoming the new sports director of Milan. Milan chose it and he chose Milan, it remains to find a square on the management of his very particular situation. Paratici will stop serving 30 months of inhibition for the investigation of capital gains on July 20, in full transfer market. And in Rome the criminal investigation on the same themes is underway. But then, what could do in the next three and a half months, with the ongoing inhibition? What would be forbidden for him? The answer is in the Code of Sports Justice of the FIGC, in particular in article 9 dedicated to “sanctions against managers, members and companies of companies”.

What cannot do

Article 9.2 explains what an inhibited manager cannot do through four prohibitions. The first: prohibition to represent the company belonging to relevant activities for the national and international sports system. For example, Paratici could not go on the bench (therefore on the report), participate for Milan in a federal council or an assembly of the League (with an exception, which we will see later), could not enter the UEFA commissions, etc … the second: prohibition to participate in any activity of the federal bodies. The third: ban on access to the changing rooms and attached rooms. The fourth: prohibition to participate in meetings with members or sports agents. Clearly, the fourth point is the only one who for a sports director like him imports.

What can do

Article 9 clarifies that the inhibited managers “can carry out, in the period in which the sanction is obvious, administrative activity in the context of their companies and to participate and represent, also with the exercise of the right to vote, its company in the assemblies of the League of competence relating to issues of a capital nature”. A rule designed to protect those who have to deal with economic issues in the assembly, therefore more useful to an owner than to a sports director. In these three and a half months, however, he could go to the site and work with Giorgio Furlani and the other AC Milan managers. It could obviously dictate market strategies. And it could go to Milanello to see training, without participating in meetings with members.
