From now on, Tommy Stroot is no longer a coach of the Bundesliga soccer players of VfL Wolfsburg. As the club announced on Tuesday, the 36-year-old resigned. VfL wants to inform VfL “in due course” about a successor.
“In the past few weeks, I have noticed that I no longer feel the energy in me that it takes to meet my own demands and that of VfL Wolfsburg. I don’t know this feeling from myself and it has moved me to think and act,” Stroot is quoted in the VfL notification.
“I made this decision as a head coach for the club, my players and the employees. I thank those responsible, the staff and the players for the successful cooperation and wish the club only the best.”
“We would have liked to go on the way together.”
-VfL managing director Peter Christiansen
The 36-year-old had already informed the sports management of Wolfsburg by Managing Director Peter Christiansen and director of women’s football Ralf Kellermann in a personal conversation on his motives on Monday.
“So the best solution for everyone involved”
“We would have liked to go on the way together. But we also have to see people in this football business. Tommy has been very honest – opposite himself, but also to the club. We respect that and have come to the realization that it is the best solution for everyone involved,” said Christiansen.
Kellermann also regrets the separation: “The collaboration between Tommy and me was shaped by great respect and mutual trust. I appreciate that Tommy communicated very openly and honestly with the club. For this and I would like to thank Tommy all the best for the shared.”
VfL women threatens Titellose season
The record cup winner and seven -time champion from Lower Saxony threatens a title season for the first time in 13 years. In the Champions League, which won the “wolves” twice, the Stroot team had recently clearly failed in the quarter-finals on TopfAvorit FC Barcelona. In the DFB Cup there was also the end of the last eight end station. In the Bundesliga, the gap to leaders FC Bayern Munich is six points before the end.
Stroot moved from Twente Enschede to VfL in 2021, became champion straight away and three times in a row. Last year he initially announced his farewell after the current season, but then he extended his contract in September.
