The 1. FC Düren is financially in the bredouille. Now the regional league also loses all of his staff.

Since January, players, coaches and staff have been waiting for their salary at the 1. FC Düren. The club got into a questionable financial difficulty, had filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of the week – and now has to live with further consequences. “There was the possibility that all players of the regional league squad cancel their contracts with immediate effect,” quoted “Reviersport” the playing sports director Adam Matuschyk: “The players made use of this.”

He and head coach Kristopher Fetz also used the option. A shortfall of around 100,000 euros was preceded. According to the club, this sum should have been available until April 1 to secure the game in April. However, there was no payment. The players had not received any salaries since the beginning of the year.

Thanks to their timely termination at the end of the quarter, players can now retrospectively apply for bankruptcy money. This is the possibility of at least partially compensating for open salary payments of the past three months.

A total of 26 people left the club. The 1. FC Düren not only loses its team and the coaching team, but is also punished with a deduction of nine points. In the table, the club falls back to twelfth place from the ninth – only four points now separate it from a relegation zone.

It is currently unclear whether the game can be maintained at all. No team is available for the coming game on Saturday against Wuppertaler SV. According to Matuszczyk, it is currently being examined whether the club can continue to play until the end of the season. One option is a team of players of the U23.
