Robin Gosens has already experienced a lot in his professional career. But he only experienced the worst moment this season.

The dramatic scenes around his teammate Edoardo Bove don’t let go of Robin Gosens. In his podcast “How are you?” The international talks about the emotionally stressful moment during the game against Inter Milan in early December – and about his view of mental health in professional football.

“I actually felt that I looked into the eyes of a dead person. There was little life in there,” Gosens describes what was experienced. This picture burned deeply into his memory. “It was probably the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” said the professional of AC Florence.

Bove had collapsed during the game, later a cardiac arrest was diagnosed. In the meantime, a defibrillator has been used to the 22-year-old Italian. A comeback in Serie A is currently excluded – players with implanted defibrillators must not be used in the Italian league.

For Gosens, the situation was a wake -up call. The studied psychologist said in a “kicker” interview that the incident had shown him “how fragile our world can be”. The topic of mental health is also particularly important to him.

“I still have the feeling that mental problems are a taboo topic in a way that I cannot understand,” said the 30-year-old. With his podcast, he wants to raise more awareness of mental stress – not just in sports.
