The police have freed a nine-year-old boy from a tiny, dark room in an apartment in Marcinelle, a borough of Charleroi. Little M. had been living there for several months with his mother and stepfather. But they locked him in a room barely two square meters in size. “He was locked up in the darkness for weeks, even months. During the holidays sometimes more than twelve hours a day. He was only allowed to leave the room to eat a few sandwiches,” the prosecutor’s office said. His mother and stepfather are in jail.
