882 refugees from Ukraine registered with Drenthe municipalities

Until yesterday, 882 refugees from Ukraine had registered with the municipalities in the province of Drenthe. This is according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

People who have come to the Netherlands from Ukraine can register directly with the municipality where they reside, if they have Ukrainian nationality. People with a different nationality may also register if they can prove that they had a valid residence permit for Ukraine just before the raid.

Emmen has the most refugees with 254, followed by Assen with 123 and the municipality of Midden-Drenthe with 114 refugees from Ukraine. The municipality of Aa en Hunze has the smallest number with 2 registrations.

Relatively speaking, most refugees from Ukraine are registered in the municipality of Midden-Drenthe: 3.38 per 1,000 inhabitants. The municipality of Aa en Hunze has the lowest number of registrations at 0.08 per 1,000 inhabitants.

According to the CBS, more than 27,000 people from Ukraine have registered with a Dutch municipality since 24 February 2022. More than a third of them are children. Eighty percent of adult refugees are women.

The number of registrations with a municipality does not have to be the actual number of refugees from Ukraine residing in that municipality. Not all refugees choose to register with a municipality. The municipalities of Drenthe have agreed to realize a total of 2000 reception places for refugees from the Ukraine.
