87 kilometers in built-up areas during the flash marathon
The police pulled over a total of 31 drivers. One driver took a positive saliva test. The motorist’s vehicle was withheld for 12 hours.
The police team does not use the flash car haphazardly. “Our team selects the speed camera locations based on accident figures, information from speed information signs and previous checks,” explains Chief Constable Steve Desmet. “Locations with an increased safety risk for pedestrians and cyclists are given priority.”
The police are calling on all drivers to behave courteously in traffic and to respect the speed limits. In Damme and Knokke-Heist you can be checked all year round for speed, driving under the influence, mobile phone use and seat belt use. Residents can always report dangerous traffic situations via the contact form on www.politie.be/5446.
