800 deaths in Europe avoided by better air quality during first lockdown

The improved air quality during the first lockdown prevented 800 deaths in Europe. This is revealed today in a new study by the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS), the European Union’s Earth observation program. Government measures related to road traffic in particular resulted in a lower concentration of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in the air.
