The match between PEC Zwolle and FC Dordrecht was temporarily halted on Friday evening because a cup was thrown onto the field from the stands. The ‘perpetrator’ turns out to be an 8-year-old child, who was eventually escorted out of the stadium together with the father.
Since no one was hit, the game was not permanently halted. PEC Zwolle was leading 1-0 at the time of the break. The leader of the Eerste Divisie was promoted to the Eredivisie last week.
The club from Zwolle announces via the twitter account that a conversation with father and child will take place with the club next week.
Later in the evening, the match between MVV and Jong AZ was also interrupted. After Young AZ defender Finn Stam had shot the young Alkmaarders to a 2-1 lead seven minutes before the end, he was cheered with a full glass of beer thrown at him. Referee Robin Vereijken summoned both teams directly to the dressing room.
Tightened measures
For example, there has still not been a round in professional football in which not a single match was (temporarily) stopped after the KNVB tightened the measures. Last weekend things went wrong with the Brabant derby between NAC Breda and Willem II, and the Eredivisie match FC Groningen-NEC. Both games were played last week.
