7th edition of the Belgian Karting Championship in Kortrijk
Not only Belgians can compete for the Belgian title. Last year, the young Dutchman Vica Schledz won, who will also compete this year to extend his title from last year. Because to date, the same pilot has never been able to win the event twice.
All drivers compete in 5 qualifying races, spread over 8 groups each, after which the 54 best drivers advance to the semi-finals. After that, only the top 16 will decide among themselves who will win the prestigious title.
In addition to the honour, the best 3 drivers of the event also win a free participation in the KWC World Championship, which will also take place in July on the kart circuit of Worldkarts Kortrijk. In 2008, Worldkarts also hosted the World Cup, and that World Cup produced the two very first Belgian world champions (in 2 categories). It is those two pilots, Mathias Grooten and Gregory Laporte, who combined their experience and became organizers of the Belgian qualifying tournament for the World Cup.
Strong field of participants
This weekend, the finalists will compete for the most important title in indoor karting on a circuit that has only recently been completely transformed into a technical course with many overtaking opportunities. It is impossible to predict who will come out on top, because with the reigning world champion and numerous national champions at the start, the level is incredibly high.
Among the participants you will also find a lot of youngsters, sometimes 12 years old, who are already racing against the world top. It is the ideal training ground for young pilots with ambition to gain experience. They also hope to add that title to their palmares one day. For the time being, they would also be satisfied with the title of junior champion, a separate ranking for minors, just as there is a separate podium and classification for the masters (over 35s) and ladies.
