Basketball Bundesliga team Alba Berlin suffered another defeat in the Euroleague. For the Berliners it was the eighth game in 18 days.
On Friday evening, the weakened Berliners lost 72:91 (37:50) to the top Russian team CSKA Moscow despite a decent performance. It was the 16th bankruptcy in the 23rd game.
The best Berlin throwers were Luke Sikma with 15 and Maodo Lo with ten points.
Coach Israel Gonzalez had to do without a trio in Ben Lammers, Christ Koumadje and Marcus Eriksson, leaving Alba two centers away. And that was noticeable under the basket from the start. CSKA kept getting rebounds after misses and so often had more throwing opportunities.
The Russians were in the lead from the start. The Bundesliga basketball team kept approaching. But Moscow always had an answer and could step up when needed. At half-time the deficit increased to 13 points.
After the change of sides, Alba then defended better, but left too many throws offensively – especially from the middle distance and under the basket. The guests kept up well, but couldn’t catch up. In the final phase, Alba became increasingly tired.
