The R&B singer had been struggling with health problems for a long time.
Irish Grinstead, a member of the R&B group 702, has died aged 43. Grinstead’s sister and band member LeMisha announced this via Instagram on Saturday (September 16).
“It is with deep sadness that I announce that my beautiful sister and friend passed away this evening,” LeMisha said in her post. “She has been through a long battle and has finally found peace. This girl was as bright as the stars! She was not only beautiful on the outside but also on the inside. Being on a stage with her was a joy that I will cherish for the rest of my life. We, the family, ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we mourn this profound loss.”
No information was given as to the cause of death, but back in December 2022, Grinstead announced that she would have to take a break due to serious health problems.
Kameelah Williams, third member of 702, also shared her sadness Instagram. “Devastated and heartbroken,” Williams writes. “It was difficult to write this post because it doesn’t feel real to me. I want to say many things, but it is not possible to say something that your heart has not yet accepted. It’s hard to admit it even happened. I know you’re feeling better now and you’re hugging your twin sister Orish, which makes me smile because I know how much you missed her. You and I have known each other since we were kids and we’ve laughed, cried, celebrated and everything in between, which is why I just don’t want to believe that.”
