700 tons of asbestos are removed from empty Sacred Heart Hospital

Dirk Coussée, Coussée Bouw & Project Roeselare: “The asbestos was actually used in the pasting. So many years ago, the pasting was done on fibreboards. And those fibreboards contain a quantity of asbestos. Today this is done in a different way. The large part of that 700 tons is processed in the pasting.”

Demolition can only start if the building is asbestos-free. And that’s in half a year. With the buildings, a piece of Roeselare history that is 100 years old also disappears. 4 hectares will become available close to the city center of Roeselare. The study on the content of the site is still ongoing.
