700 meters of curtain from the Rijksmuseum goes to families with a small budget: “This is a bizarre amount of fabric”

The Sina Foundation receives donations more often, but a donation in the form of 700 meters of curtain is the first time. The curtains that hung in the Rijksmuseum during the Vermeer exhibition no longer have a function there, so volunteers make them into curtains. They will be hung in the homes of Amsterdammers with a small budget.

“We can then give it away to families who need it,” says Sharon van der Wal of the Sina foundation. The fact that the curtains were not made for Amsterdam homes can be seen in the attic of the Sina foundation. There are huge pieces of fabric throughout the attic, which volunteers make into small curtains, but they are overjoyed with the curtains from the Rijksmuseum. “Not only is it very beautiful, but I think it will also last for a long time,” says volunteer Danielle Wanders.

Still prefer red

One of those Amsterdammers is mister Russel. He came especially from Buitenveldert for the curtains. Sharon proudly walks over to him with the red curtains. “Do you like this color?” she asks. “No, unfortunately not,” Russell says honestly. No problem, because upstairs are the blue paintings from the Rijksmuseum. “Beautiful,” says Mr. Russel when he holds the blue curtains.

Amsterdammers with a small purse can go on the site of the Sina foundation sign up for the free curtains. In addition to free curtains, Amsterdammers can also contact the foundation for other matters.
