The Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the largest global tech fair from January 9-12, 2024 in Las Vegas, USA, is increasingly less about exciting gadgets and more about innovative technological solutions. For example, for social and economic challenges in the field of energy, digitalization such as photonics, circular raw materials and healthcare. This year, 70 Dutch startups are going to the CES to present themselves to potential customers and investors. They are also at the official pre-event CES Unveiled on Thursday, October 12 in Zaandam.

In the coming years, the Dutch government will take additional steps to further improve the Dutch startup and scale-up business climate. That is why five detailed ambitions have been established for more financing and better access to market capital, sufficient available talent, a higher number of tech jobs, more growth to scale-ups and a focus on knowledge-intensive startups (deep tech).

Minister Micky Adriaansens (Economic Affairs and Climate): “The CES in Las Vegas and other trade missions are a great opportunity to learn from what the Americans are doing well. We also experience appreciation for our Dutch entrepreneurship. The Americans remain a good example when it comes to encouraging startups and scale-ups. They are strong in collaboration between research and business, but also in making venture investments. It is therefore important that we position promising Dutch growth companies through the CES. This also contributes to the government’s objectives to enable the Dutch startup and scale-up business climate to take the next step and remain a leader in Europe.”

Innovative solutions for a better world

The participating Dutch growth companies come from all over the country and are active in various sectors such as health tech, energy transition and high tech. How it works MantiSpectra to a small spectral chip that can accurately measure material properties in real time and can be produced on a large scale. LV Energy is developing new technology that extracts electrical energy from sound waves and Breggz, the startup founded by singer Xander de Buisonjé, is building a wireless, custom-made, in-ear computer.

CES Unveiled: official pre-event CES and start for the Dutch mission

The official kick-off of the Dutch CES Las Vegas mission will take place during CES Unveiled on October 12 at the Taets Art & Event Park in Zaandam. This year’s CES theme is Tech for One World. During this pre-event, participating startups will present themselves and offer a preview of the innovations heading to CES 2024.

This year it works CES Unveiled Amsterdam together with World Summit AI to strengthen the region’s position as a global technology hub. The event will feature inspirational speakers such as Gary Shapiro, president Consumer Tech Association, Michiel Scheffer, president European Innovation Council and Constantijn van Oranje, special envoy Techleap.nl. Dutch CES participants

In the coming months, the participating Dutch startups will follow a training program offered by the Ministries of Economic Affairs and Climate (EZK), Foreign Affairs and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). This allows them to present themselves in the best possible way to a global network of potential customers, investors and journalists at CES in the United States.

CES is the annual meeting place for more than 170,000 companies and investors from approximately 160 countries. Look at the complete list of participating Dutch companies. The Netherlands is participating in CES for the eighth time. Over the past seven years, hundreds of Dutch companies have participated in the mission that helps them scale internationally. For many of them, CES was a breakthrough.

An example is CES 2017 participant Sendcloud, a shipping service for online stores that optimizes and scales the entire shipping process. The Dutch company is now active worldwide and has an estimated business valuation of $750 million. Th3rd, which offers 3D printing as a service to digitize products on a large scale, participated in CES in 2019. They have been able to acquire major international customers such as Vans and Adidas and were acquired by SNAP earlier this year.
