At the Bovenlang, opposite the Stadshart, there is a brand new bicycle shed with a lot of bicycle racks and space for your scooter. All right so far! But to get to the parking from the road you have to be very careful.

With all options: pay attention

From the road you can drive up the sidewalk in two, somewhat clumsy ways. If you take the high curb then you have to put your wheel across, otherwise you could fall badly. If you wait until the sloping part of the sidewalk, you have to watch out that you don’t hit the post of the parking, a gate or another bicycle.

The wisest thing to do is to get off here before parking your bicycle or scooter. Make sure no one is driving right behind you, because you are not very visible in the bend.

Difficult to reach bicycle parking

By bike you can easily ride to Zoetermeer Oost train station. But reaching the bike shed on the Village side is only for adventurers or those with a lot of time.

Three ways

The first way is to enter the tunnel under the railway and take your bike up the stairs. The second way is to drive all the way through the tunnel and cross the Zuidweg at the top. Do take into account a longer travel time, because you have to wait a while at the traffic lights if you are unlucky.

The third way is the fastest, but also the most inconvenient and unsafe. From the cycle path along the Eerste Stationsstraat you go onto the sidewalk, in line with the motorway. The sidewalk is very narrow and oncoming traffic may arrive. The best time is to make the crossing when no traffic is coming.

Bike path without beginning

To the dr. JW Paltelaan is a cycle path without a connection point at the beginning. The path runs along the Burgemeester Vernèdesportpark, where it suddenly appears without any connection. It is probably the old bike path that has been replaced by a new, two-way lane across the street. From the roundabout it is therefore better to take the new cycle path towards Zoetermeer train station.

Until you weigh an ounce

To cross the Europaweg, our tip is: do not take the crossing at the Denmarklaan. It seems as if the traffic light for cyclists and walkers does not turn green. Only people with angelic patience will probably not find it a problem…

With the bicycle on the escalator

Of course we have known for a long time that the Mandela Bridge will be renovated in due course and that a new platform for cyclists will be built over the A12. But in the meantime we still have to stand with our bicycle on the escalator or in the queue for the elevator because the escalator is broken again.

Bicycle parking Zoetermeer East

On page two we already told you about the poorly accessible bicycle shed on the side of the Village near Zoetermeer train station. There is a second bicycle shed on the other side of Zuidweg, but there is something about that too.

The street is partly raised under the roof. There is a curb so you have to put your parked bicycle or scooter well forward. But for some large bicycle models there is no room for that. Standard sizes fit exactly between the bike rack and the sloping sidewalk. But bicycles that do not fit in the bicycle rack must have their steel steed
