The German rugby men lost their opening game at the 7s World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa.
In their first ever participation in the World Cup, the team of national coaches Clemens von Grumbkow and Philip Snyman lost against Chile after extra time with 12:15. In the consolation round for places 17 to 24, the game continues against Portugal on Saturday.
After attempts by Ireland-based Jack Hunt and Heidelberger Tim Lichtenberg, as well as a raise by Lichtenberg’s teammate Fabian Heimpel, the German team was 12-0 up at half-time. In the end, the South Americans prevailed with the “Golden Score” in extra time.
