7 Types of Bad Bosses Who Think They’re Good Boss

Several bad bosses

These bosses are often good employees. But the qualities that make them good employees mean that they don’t really shine as a boss.

1. The ‘I know everything best’ type

No one knows everything best, but this type of boss disagrees. His or her will is law. Good bosses and managers know that they do not have all the knowledge themselves in-house. That is, after all, the reason that you have gathered a team around you that can help you with this. Bad bosses want employees who think alike and who only do the jobs they tell them to do.

2. The ‘It’s all about the numbers’ type

More and more decisions are made on the basis of data and of course there is something to be said for that. But as a boss you can also go too far in this, especially if you lose sight of people. The employees should come before the results, because in the long run this approach only benefits in both areas.

3. The ‘invisible’ type

A boss who doesn’t constantly look at your fingers doesn’t sound wrong at first. But as an employee, a manager who is absent all the time is of no use to you either. It is not surprising that as an employee you then become unmotivated and wonder whether you can grow without guidance.

4. The Tough Love Type

Note that we are not talking about a boss who is bad in and at it and likes to be mean, but a boss who actually thinks that being unwise critical has the best effect on his employees.

It is of course necessary to give feedback, but it must be criticism that you can do something with. This boss also forgets that a compliment every now and then is also good for performance (and also for morale).

5. The ‘Time Waster’

This boss likes to feel important, and therefore schedules a lot of meetings, phone calls and brainstorming sessions that are often not necessary at all. They have no respect at all for the other’s time.

6. The ‘Politician’

The politician is more concerned with building a career, and getting a good deal on the people above him or her in the organization, than with managing the team. The bad boss in question isn’t involved in the team’s work at all, but does get credit for the performance.

7. The drill seargant

A personal life? This ‘drill seargant’ has never heard of that. His or her team is bombarded with messages or assignments and it doesn’t matter if it’s 8 in the morning or 8 in the evening. Culture and team building is also not important in the eyes of this type.
