Den Bosch mayor Jack Mikkers has closed a house on Steve Bikostraat for three months after the police found 64 laughing bottles. It is the first time that a house in the municipality has been closed after a nitrous oxide find. The drug has been banned since January 1.

Local residents had been dealing with nuisance for some time due to the use and trade of laughing gas from the house. That prompted the police to search the house. A total of 64 nitrous oxide bottles were found.

“Together we see more, that is also apparent now. Living well is important to everyone. That starts with a safe environment. A drug house in your neighborhood doesn’t fit in there. Good that the signals have been noticed and reported. As a result, residents, the police and the municipality have been able to act together,” says the mayor.

First time
Laughing gas has been added to the Opium Act since January 1, making its use, possession and trade punishable. In addition, a mayor may close a building if a commercial quantity of laughing gas is found. That happened for the first time on Tuesday because the house was seen as a drug house.

Earlier, two buildings in the municipality were closed for safety reasons because there were many nitrous oxide bottles. The mayor thought that storage was unwise because of the residential environment where the buildings were located.
