The Eisbären Berlin have further consolidated their lead in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). On Sunday afternoon, the German champions defeated the Krefeld Pinguine 6-2 (2-0, 1-2, 3-0).
Zach Boychuk added two goals to the capital city’s clear home win, while Dominik Bokk, Frans Nielsen, Matt White and Simon Després also scored.
In front of 4,000 spectators in the arena at Ostbahnhof, the hosts determined the game from the start. In his first game for the polar bears, newcomer Bokk was lucky enough to take the lead: a cross from the attacker bounced off a Krefeld player’s skate and into the net. Nielsen extended the lead when the Berliners played with a majority for the first time.
The hosts also had many good chances to score in the second period, but the Krefeld team used their counterattack opportunities consistently: Arturs Kulda shortened the lead for the guests.
White restored the old gap 83 seconds later, but ex-Eisbären professional Laurin Braun, outnumbered, managed to score again for the bottom of the table.
In the final section, the home side were the more efficient team: Boychuk calmed the nerves with his goal before Després scored with a man down and Boychuk again ensured a clear result.
