The footballers of VfL Wolfsburg have taken a giant step towards the seventh championship. The leaders of the women’s Bundesliga won the top game against the defending champion and pursuer FC Bayern Munich 6-0 (3-0).
VfL extended the lead to four points with three remaining matchdays. In front of 3,037 spectators in the AOK stadium, Wolfsburg made things clear in the first half with two dream goals from Svenja Huth (8th minute), Tabea Waßmuth (39th) and Joelle Wedemeyer (33rd). Alexandra Popp scored another goal worth seeing with a diving header (77th). Lena Oberdorf (82nd) and Ewa Pajor (90th + 1) increased to 6:0.
The “final” proclaimed by Bayern coach Jens Scheuer started intensely on both sides – until the Wolfsburg women shocked the guests. With a Sunday shot, Svenja Huth scored the 1-0 from almost 20 meters. In addition to the goals, the home team had many great chances in the first half and should have led much higher. Scheuer reacted to VfL’s show of force with three changes at the beginning of the second half. Although Bayern approached the opposing goal more often, there were no clear chances.
