50,000 attempts to cross the Channel: “Investing even more in Zeebrugge port security”
13 million euros. This is the sum of the amount invested over the past two years in the fight against human smuggling from our coast and from the ports to England. Last year there were 50,000 attempts to cross the channel from France and our country. 40 percent succeed in the crossing.
The British Migration Service on a working visit to provincial governor Carl Decaluwé. Great Britain is co-investing in camera security in Zeebrugge and is providing drones and thermal cameras for the West Coast police. They also help in France. Yet there were 50,000 attempts to cross the canal last year.
