5,000 Zaanse houses in the photo to provide insight into energy loss

Energy prices are skyrocketing, but in Zaanstad more than 5,000 households can do something about this by means of free heat scans: better insulate the house. “Such a heat scan is a photo we take at night,” thermographer Gerben Bos tells NH Radio. He continues: “And it provides insight into where you lose energy in your home.”

Thermographer Gerben Bos took pictures at night in Zaandijk, Zaandam and Wormerveer. The residents were informed, and now and then a few wave, but some residents are so startled that they start yelling at Bos. “Then you think a little softer, sir, everyone is asleep. Then my heart is really in my throat, because you don’t want ten crying children around you.”

While shooting, the thermograph did not come across cannabis plantations. “Everything above ten degrees is white. And sometimes you think: the house is very warm, because everything is white. But it takes a lot of energy and time to see what exactly it is. And then we make no boyfriends either.” According to Bos, ‘no crazy things have been noticed’ in Zaanstad.

To spare

When the residents receive the heat scans, they can see from the photo whether their house can be improved. “The glass is often not good enough,” Bos explains. “From the old double glazing to new double glazing you will save 70 to 80 percent energy. That is really a lot.”

It is then up to the homeowners whether they hire an insulation specialist. Bos: “Of course we can’t look into the wall. Have someone come, have it looked at and ask for options.” According to de Bos, other interested parties can also have a photo taken of their house. “As long as you choose a thermograph, a professional company.”
