No other of Neil Young’s albums achieved such a wide impact, and it wasn’t just because of the US number one “Heart Of Gold”.
Rarely has Schrat balanced the extremes as wonderfully as he does here: the simple meets the complex, tragedy meets humour, rumble rock meets romance, realism meets hippie dreams.
Wisdom by Neil Young
And the wisdom of “A Man Needs A Maid”, “Old Man” and the live recorded “The Needle And The Damage Done” endures to this day.
The circumstances during the recordings in Nashville were anything but promising: Due to a back problem, Young usually had to wear a support corset. You can’t hear the restriction in his touching singing.
