Did you attend Oranje Nassau College Christian secondary school in 1987? There is a good chance that you spotted Queen Beatrix during the opening.
In the archives we found old images of her visit to Zoetermeer. The then 49-year-old Queen appeared in the schoolyard wearing a cool hat and long leather boots. She was received by students, teachers and the mayor and she visited the chemistry classroom, among other things.
First a little bit of history
With the growth of our city in the 1970s, there was also more demand for education. For a long time there was not even a secondary school in Zoetermeer! In 1976 the Roman Catholic secondary school opened the Alfrink College. In 1987 the Christian secondary schools Willem van Oranje opened on Clauslaan and the Oranje Nassau College on Parkdreef. In the latter case, Queen Beatrix came to Zoetermeer especially for the opening. Check out the images below:
