5 Style tips: ‘This is how you combine the wide trousers trend’ | Columns & Opinion

“We have recently become accustomed to wearing what is especially comfortable. Comfort comes first, that’s something we have learned in corona time. But it should of course not be the case that we only choose the easy clothes, such as jogging pants, and thus miss out on other fun trends (which are also comfortable, so that aside).

With regard to the wide trousers trend: you can really go in all directions, because there is a model for every figure and for every age, which you can also style so that your own style/look is also preserved. These five style tips below will tell you how. Because of course you shouldn’t feel like you’re wearing a hobo bag.

1. Flared jeans

A 90s flared flared jeans with a high waist and flared legs are great for making your legs look a lot longer, so that’s an optical trick for someone with shorter legs . Do you have a slim waist? Then a model with a higher waist is an extra tip, because it also makes you look super slim.

Especially when you wear a tight tank top (high summer) or a tight T-shirt (slim fit), the accent is on your slim waist. In any case, the maxim is that it is better to wear something later with wide pants. If you get cold, you wear a tight-cut denim jacket, it’s just like wearing a whole suit and that also looks nice as a total picture.

For the daredevils, a spencer (sleeveless) is also very nice to wear with jeans, because that way you can combine a tad tatty/brave look with the cool jeans. You can make this nail look even more high end by wearing a sandal with a heel or an ankle boot and a striking, colorful crossbody bag. Do you prefer a sportier look? Then you can wear the jeans with a spacious hoodie or sweater and a pair of sneakers and, for example, a backpack.

2. Pleated trousers

The light-coloured pleated trousers in Marlène Dietrich style, but then for example in white or beige, can really be combined with everything. The pants are also welcome to drag along the floor if you wear sneakers underneath, for a somewhat more rugged city look. Can also be worn with an oversized blazer or a loose-fitting blouse, but always wear something directly above it. A belt gives extra length and emphasizes the waist.

With a linen version of the palazzo pants, there are also many options: this looks a bit smoother and you can also wear a blouse on it that you partly tuck in the pants and leave the rest (for example the back) hanging out. The pleated trousers are also a classic item and it also works well at work, so you always look representative.

Also nice to wear underneath are the classic loafers in pastel shades or bright colors. In combination with a snow-white cotton blouse, worn with the jeans, this also looks very fresh. And don’t forget: wear eye-catching sunglasses with it! This way your outfit immediately gets a celebrity look.

3. The Man Suit

The suit, consisting of wide trousers and a matching blazer, is completely hot this season. You can find it in basic colors, but also in bright colors such as fuchsia, green, orange, yellow and lilac. Because the suit looks so neat, the top can be a little openwork or have a deep neckline, otherwise it will quickly look too well-behaved.

Are you wearing the blazer closed? Then even a colored bra or a halter top alone, which you just catch a glimpse of, is enough. As for the footwear: are you short in stature and want to look taller? Then you wear a heel underneath. If you are tall, a leather slipper or sneaker is also a great option.

4. The wide beach pants

These are very airy, fluttering pants that you can wear to the beach and in which you can also go on to a beach party or lunch on the spot. You can choose a plain item in summery white, easy to combine black or a bright color.

But of course the printed ones, matching your bathing suit and preferably from the same brand, are even more fun. And sometimes you’re lucky: there’s also a blouse, tunic and/or pareo in the same print. You can then turn the pareo back like a shawl and the tunic can be worn separately as a jacket, so that you suddenly wear a whole suit. Instant party proof for a great beach party!

5. Pajama Bottoms

The trend of the so-called ‘pajama bottoms’ for out and about is one that is resurfacing in the summer. Think silk/satin trousers that drape lightly around your body and feature tropical, floral or psychedelic prints and stripes in Deauville style.

With this you can go in all directions. At the top you can wear all kinds of solid items from trendy embroidered blouses in matching colors (but solid with a print of the pants) to crisp white blouses, tops, bikini tops, bathing suits and even on colder evenings a hoodie or a sweater.

In fact, these are the only wide-fitting pants on which you can wear something loose, such as a sweater, because the contrast of the airy material and the sturdy sweater fits together well. With a slipper or a trendy sneaker underneath, the picture is complete.”
