Freiburg record? “Never”
Anniversary for Christian Streich: The SC Freiburg coach was in charge of the 400th time in a competitive game for the Breisgau team on the 5th Bundesliga matchday. What would be a club record for 15 of the other 17 current Bundesliga clubs is just enough for second place at Sport-Club. Streich was asked before the game on “Sky” whether he would still be able to break Volker Finke’s Freiburg top score during his tenure. Over 200 more games would be needed. He replied: “Never!”

Streich said of his anniversary: ”It’s quite a lot. What can I say about what that means to me? One thing leads to another, when you get to work with a club for so long, more and more games are added. With Volker there were even more.”
Streich’s balance sheet consists of the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, DFB Cup and Europa League plus qualification and is at least slightly positive in the win/loss comparison. The SC won 155 times and lost 141 under pranks. 589 goals versus 596 goals conceded. “You shouldn’t fall into too much euphoria with yourself, otherwise things will get critical over time,” commented Streich. “It’s nice, it also cost a price. I’ve experienced a lot of good things, which also takes a lot of strength over the years.” The anniversary was achieved in the derby against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday of all places: Freiburg narrowly won 1-0 at their arch-rivals.
