400 square meters for student creativity

Right next to the halls of the Kulturwerft Gollan, on the ground floor of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (SHMF), a 400 square meter room for student creativity and teaching is being built in the Lübeck shipyard quarter. The Department of Civil Engineering TH Lübeck moves into a new studio that has been adapted to the needs of students and teachers by the team at Kulturwerft Gollan in recent months.

“The shipyard district with Kulturwerft, SHMF, the still planned and existing manufacturers such as Sudden Death Brewing, Cycle Roasters and MachBar is bringing more and more people together. With the students from the faculty of construction at Lübeck University of Applied Sciences, our town continues to revitalize and grow. We are very much looking forward to working together and exchanging ideas with everyone!” said Thilo Gollan at the signing of the contract.

The reason for the expansion of the campus in the direction of the old town? “The TH Lübeck is growing and we cannot adequately cover all needs on the campus – for example a studio for architecture,” says Yvonne Plaul, Chancellor of the TH Lübeck. “We have found a place for our students on the site of the shipyard quarter that gives them the space to develop and develop their practical skills in a historical atmosphere,” added the Chancellor. “We are very happy to be able to work with our students in a place surrounded by so many creative minds. With this studio, we get a space for practical work, teaching and learning from one another – our shop window into the city,” says Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Stephan Wehrig, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Lübeck University of Applied Sciences.

Students are already present in the studio and working on models when the contract is signed. Clara Blume, an architecture student in the 5th semester, thinks: “The group work in the studio is particularly valuable for us because we can learn very well from one another here. We are also looking forward to the warm summer evenings and the fact that the different semesters can network even better with each other.”

The TH Lübeck is not only visible in the shipyard district with the new studio. Another joint project of all universities is currently emerging in the former Karstadt sports shop at Schrangen in the city center. A digital learning campus is to be created there as a place of learning and have an impact on urban society.
