To bring a bit of momentum into the end of the year, I recommend “Alles aus Liebe: 40 Jahre Die Toten Hosen”, the compilation for the Düsseldorf band’s milestone birthday – with three dozen classics and seven new songs.
All these songs remind me of the many concerts where I am always amazed at how much energy the pants have and how euphorically the audience celebrates them every time.
Especially nice this year: the warm-up gig at the end of May in the small Astra Club in Berlin. Campino and his colleagues’ joy at finally being able to stand on stage again was transmitted directly to everyone in the hall, and the new piece “112” expresses exactly this bond and love of life: “We’ve been ready for 40 years / remain winners against time/ On good days and bad/ Nothing but gratitude in us.” (And I still have to laugh at the rhyme “Sometimes, if we have to/ Let’s drive to Buenos Aires”.)
