FC Viktoria Köln has signed left-back Sidny Lopes Cabral. The 21-year-old comes from the regional league club Rot-Weiß Erfurt, for whom he contributed three goals and ten assists in 52 games in two years. Previously, Lopes Cabral, who made his debut for Cape Verde’s senior national team last October but was not selected for the Africa Cup of Nations, was trained at Twente Enschede and Helsingborgs IF.
“We had our eye on Sidny for a while. His way of playing football caught our attention. He is strong on both feet and therefore versatile, can play on the left and right rail. He has a good pace and fits exactly into our style of play,” said sporting director Stephan Küsters. Lopes Cabral added: “I’m looking forward to my time in Cologne and am ready for the next step. I (…) now want to prove myself to Viktoria. I want to continue to bring my strengths – my pace, my work against the ball – onto the pitch in the future.”
