Third division soccer team VfB Lübeck remained unbeaten for the third game in a row. But the 1:1 (0:0) in the basement duel with 1860 Munich doesn’t help the Schleswig-Holsteiners much after two previous wins.
Although VfB improved by one place in the table to 17th place, Hallesche FC on the safe side is already three points away thanks to its win in Duisburg and has played one game less – just like the “Lions”.
In the generally weak duel with the Munich team, the Lübeck team at least showed their morale and managed to equalize after Mirko Boland conceded the supposedly decisive goal shortly before the end.
Next Saturday (4.30 p.m.) the promoted team will be visiting Erzgebirge Aue.
VfB starts well, then the game peters out
VfB got off to a brisk start and had their first good opportunity through Robin Velasco after just two minutes, but the double goalscorer from the Mannheim game didn’t hit the ball properly. Shortly afterwards, Marius Hauptmann failed just as promisingly against guest keeper Marco Hiller (4th).
After that, however, the game petered out. Lübeck had more possession of the ball and was the more active team, but hardly created any scoring chances. The guests from Munich remained completely harmless on offense; VfB keeper Philipp Klewin was not challenged once in the first half.
Ouro-Tagba shocks VfB Lübeck…,
Even after the break, it remained a hard-fought game with few playful highlights. It wasn’t until the 58th minute that there was a goal threat again: Lübeck’s Mats Facklam sprinted towards the “Löwen” goal after a counterattack, but Hiller was able to parry his shot.
As the game went on, both teams became more and more afraid of making a potentially decisive mistake. The hosts then seemed to have made it: Manfred Starke’s cross from the left side was headed in by Mansour Ouro-Tagba, who was left criminally alone, to give Munich the lead (79′). Both players had been substituted four minutes earlier by 1860 coach Argirios Giannikis.
…but Boland fights back
But Lübeck didn’t give up – captain Boland headed a high cross from Marvin Thiel into the net to equalize (88′). However, the celebration of the goal quickly died down because the goalscorer hit his head against the post and remained dazed. Shortly afterwards, the all-clear was given: Boland had to be substituted, but he went to the bench on his own with a bandage on his head. And in the end, we were happy about the points being shared based on performance.
