3rd league: SV Sandhausen loses against struggling VfB Lübeck

As of: December 19, 2023 9:11 p.m

SV Sandhausen suffered its second defeat in a row in the 3rd league. Jens Keller’s team lost 1:2 (0:2) against VfB Lübeck.

After the clear defeat against Ingolstadt on the last match day SVS head coach Jens Keller announced that the team wanted to make up for the result. The Sandhäuser were the better team in the early stages, but VfB Lübeck, who were in danger of relegation, surprisingly took the lead with their first attack. Leon Sommer crossed from the right, Manuel Farrona-Pulido shot towards goal from close range. SVS defender Christoph Ehrlich deflected the ball while trying to clear the ball (17th minute).

One-two punch from the underdog

Less than five minutes later it was Leon Sommer again who brought the ball from the right towards the SVS goal. Tarik Gözüsirin increased the score to 2-0 for Lübeck (20th). Before half-time, Sandhausen had the opportunity to score again through David Otto after work by Franck Evina, but the ball went past the goal.

Connection hit came too late

Both players had to be substituted before the break due to injuries. Richard Meier came in for Otto. Sebastian Stolze replaced Franck Evina. In the second half, SVS’s shots increased. Jens Keller’s team also established themselves in the Lübeck half, but Lübeck still had the chance to extend their lead. The Electoral Palatinate’s goal from Livan Burcu came too late in the 89th minute. So there was no compensation for the game in Ingolstadt and SV Sandhausen lost for the second time in a row.

After the winter break, Sandhausen will compete in Dresden. VfB Lübeck welcomes Waldhof Mannheim.
