3rd league: SSV Ulm plays the top game at Erzgebirge Aue

As of: October 22, 2023 9:27 p.m

SSV Ulm won 2-1 (0-1) at Erzgebirge Aue on matchday 12 of the 3rd league. The game started very badly for Thomas Wörle’s team.

The game between the fifth and third teams in the Erzgebirge Stadium started with a bang. Less than a minute had been played when Aue’s Sean Seitz fed attacker Marcel Bär, who headed in from a few meters to take the lead. Ulm appeared unimpressed and looked for a way to go on the offensive, while the hosts initially acted a little more cautiously.

Nicolas Jann almost ensured the SSV equalized quickly. However, the attacker put the ball just next to the goal after preparatory work by Leo Scienza (4th minute). Both teams continued to play solid ball in the build-up. However, big chances were in short supply as both defensive lines presented themselves well organized.

After half an hour, the Auers gained an advantage, but the Ulm team survived the strong phase of the Violets unscathed. On the other side, it took until the 35th minute for the Spatzen to fire their first shot on goal at Jan Männel’s goal. Romario Rösch’s finish didn’t pose any problems for the Auer goalkeeper.

Scienza brings Ulm back quickly

The Ulm team came out of the half-time break wide awake. In the 48th minute, Scienza quickly equalized. Preparer Bastian Allgeier was served on the right side in a suspected offside position. Scienza safely used his sharp cross in the middle.

The game now really took off. Ulm stayed on the trigger and almost conceded the 1:2. After a failed throw-in from Jann, keeper Christian Ortag made a desperate save (55′). In the 64th minute, Scienza failed with a powerful long-range shot past Aue keeper Männel. After the corner that followed, the Sparrows celebrated: Philipp Maier scored with a header to make the game 2-1.

Ulm continues to play forward

The Ulm team didn’t retreat after taking the lead and played for the third goal. During this phase, the Auers hardly ever came dangerously close to the Ulm Gate. In the 75th minute, Männel lost the ball to Ulm’s Felix Higl, but the Sparrows were unable to take advantage of the opportunity that presented itself.

In the final phase, Aue intensified his efforts to equalize. But Ortag parried Omar Sijaric’s shot (84′).

Thanks to their success, Ulm are in third place with 23 points. On the next match day the Spatzen will host Halleschen FC. Kick-off in the Donaustadion is on Saturday (October 28th, 2023) at 2 p.m.
