TSV 1860 Munich lost for the first time after eight unbeaten games. The Munich Lions were outnumbered in added time against promotion hopefuls SSV Ulm.
For a long time it looked as if TSV 1860 Munich would remain unbeaten in the ninth game under coach Argirios Giannikis. Despite being outnumbered, the Lions seemed to tremble their way to a 0-0 draw against SSV Ulm. But then Lucas Röser scored for the hosts after a corner in stoppage time.
Lions’ excess of chances in the first half – Verlaat’s goal doesn’t count
The Lions’ self-confidence was evident, which is currently increasing from week to week. After a good quarter of an hour, Ulm goalkeeper Christian Ortag brilliantly parried a header from Leroy Kwadwoh (17th). The following corner then found its way into the goal, but Jesper Verlaat’s goal didn’t count. Referee Tom Bauer considered Mansour Ouro-Tagbas’ blocking against Ulm’s Tom Gaal as a foul and disallowed the goal (18th). Because Abid Nankishi also failed after an outstanding start to Ortag, the break went goalless. The guests also had their chances, but coach Giannikis’ team recorded the more dangerous shots.
Frey’s expulsion followed by the formation of a pack
The second half took some getting going. Although TSV intensified its pressing and therefore had more play, it was not dangerous for the Sparrows. After a good hour, the home team weakened itself. After the Lions did not get a free kick, Marlon Frey stopped the following counterattack with a tackle at full speed. Referee Bauer considered it a frustration foul and sent the midfielder off the field early with a straight red (63′). There were wild discussions about the scene on the Munich and Ulm banks, and a pack formed, at the end of which the Ulm managing director Markus Thiele and a Löwen official were shown the yellow card.
Röser shock in added time
Lions coach Giannikis reacted to the sending off and stabilized the midfield with Manfred Starke for Fynn-Luca Lakenmacher. However, Giesinger’s offensive urge was severely inhibited. The game became increasingly flat. The guests didn’t know what to do with their majority. And so it took until added time before the Swabians became dangerous again. Lukas Röster headed in from a corner and ended the Lions’ super series (90th + 3). They still had a great chance to equalize through Kwadwo, but the defender put his shot over the crossbar from close range a few seconds before the final whistle (90.+6).
