SC Freiburg II defeated SpVgg Bayreuth 2-0 (1-0) on the 21st match day of the 3rd division and consolidated their place in the top group.
SC Freiburg’s second team was able to celebrate early against the relegation-threatened guests from Bayreuth. Philip Fahrner used the first chance of Breisgau with a header to take the lead thanks to preparatory work from Vincent Vermeij. (4th minute).
The guests didn’t let themselves be lured out of the defensive by the deficit and continued to be stable. The SC remained the more dangerous team, but the Bayreuthers had a great chance: Markus Ziereis only hit the crossbar with his header (17th).
At the other end, Oscar Wiklöf missed the 2-0 just before the break, his attempt was cleared on the line (45′).
Vermeij scores a penalty kick for SC Freiburg
In the second half, Freiburg continued to be the more active team, but Bayreuth remained dangerous. SC keeper Noah Atubolu prevented Alexander Nollenberger from equalizing (65′).
Substitute Patrick Lienhard already missed the decision in favor of the SC in the final phase, his shot only hit the crossbar (82nd). Vermeij finally took care of this, converting a controversial penalty kick to the final score in injury time (90+5).
After the win, SC Freiburg moved up to third place, at least temporarily, and now has 39 points.
