1. FC Saarbrücken won 2-0 against Borussia Dortmund’s second team on Friday. After a tough start to the game, the team from ZIEHL showed their qualities on the offensive.

Both teams were in the table after four games with five points – and both finally wanted to take three points home again. In the end, Saarbrücken was able to shine and finally secured the victory in the home stadium in a sovereign manner.

BVB got their first free kick after just two minutes: Paul-Philipp Besong had fouled Manuel Zeitz. Ole Pohlmann saved the Saarbrücken goal, but FCS goalkeeper Tim Paterok was able to prevent an early goal.

Game balanced at first, but without highlights

There weren’t any real chances to score in the early stages. Only in the 16th minute did the first corner of the game give FCS another chance to finish.

Zeitz got the ball on his head, but his shot was blocked. On the part of BVB, Pohlman was active, but often too stubborn, so he couldn’t create any good chances. Overall, the first half of the game was largely lacking in highlights.

The first real chance came in the 30th minute – for the blue-blacks. Patrick Schmidt fought for the ball after an inaccurate pass, pulled into the Dortmund penalty area and aimed at goal. Without the brilliant save by BVB keeper Lotka, that would have been the opening goal for FCS.

FCSopening goal brings speed into play

Apparently the action burst a knot. Then in the 36th minute a strong cross from Falko Michel. But he couldn’t sink the leather. The counterattack almost ended with a goal for FCS by Brünker, but he couldn’t get past Bjarne Pudel from five yards out.

A minute later, FCS finally took the lead. Kasim Rahibic got to the end through detours, initially shot the post, but was then able to convert the rebound. In the 37th minute, it was 1:0 for the team from Ziehl.

While the goal gave the Saarbrückeners self-confidence on the pitch, the black and yellow side had no chances. The FCS leadership went into the cabins.

Saarbrücken can expand leadership

The Dortmund came with two offensive reinforcements from halftime and were game-determining in the first few minutes. However, FCS closed at the back so that BVB could not get through. In the 58th minute, Saarbrücken could breathe a sigh of relief.

After a rebound from BVB defender Pudel, the ball jumped straight to Brünker. He took off and shot straight into the left corner – unstoppable for Lotka. It was 2-0 for FCS, which caused frustration on the part of Borussia. In the 66th minute, a Pohlmann free kick gave BVB hope. However, the FCS keeper Paterok was able to defuse.

Dortmund made an effort to catch up, but couldn’t get past Saarbrücken’s defence. In the last third of the game, FCS was more offensive on the ball again. However, the score remained 2-0.

Next third division game for FCS in mid-September

With the win against Dortmund, the team from 9 catapulted to 2nd place in the table.

The blue-blacks won’t have the next chance to score for more than two weeks. Only on Sunday, September 17, will FCS be on the field away against SpVgg Unterhaching. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m.
