3rd League: Münster’s keeper Schulze Niehues causes Duisburg to despair

Preußen Münster fought to a goalless draw at MSV Duisburg. The Prussians could especially thank their goalkeeper.

The MSV Duisburg Didn’t get more than a 0-0 draw at home against Preußen Münster. On Saturday (September 30th, 2023), MSV was the better team for long stretches, but repeatedly failed due to Münster goalkeeper Max Schulze Niehues.

Duisburg with better opportunities

Duisburg, still without a win, had the first chance of the game: Caspar Jandar, however, aimed too high when he finished. Afterwards, a balanced game developed without any major highlights. It only became dangerous again after half an hour when Chinedu Ekene tested the Münsterander goalkeeper Max Schulze Niehues.

MSV remained the better team. Benjamin Girth took a fine pass too poorly and thus deprived himself of an excellent shooting position (37′). Out of nowhere, Preußen Münster suddenly had the best chance of the game: Luca Bazzoli hit the crossbar with a shot from 15 meters (38th). On the other side, Schulze Niehues made an outstanding save from Ekene’s header shortly before half-time (43′).

After the break, Prussia almost got off to a dream start: Daniel Kyerewaa shot from a tight angle after 60 seconds, MSV keeper Vincent Müller only kept the ball when he followed up. Duisburg came dangerously in front of the Münster goal for the first time after around ten minutes, but Ekene was again denied by Schulze Niehues.

The visitors’ goalkeeper developed more and more into the man of the day: he again saved a header from Marvin Knoll very well (64′). Münster tried to hold back – the game swung back and forth. MSV continued to have the better chances, but Jandar also found his master in Schulze Niehues (70th). Münster defended the draw passionately in the final phase. The final penetrating force was missing at the front. In stoppage time, Duisburg’s Philipp König hit the crossbar and missed the redeeming goal.
