MSV Duisburg has presented Michael Preetz as the new sole managing director. The 56-year-old will take up office immediately. Preetz’s main task will not only be the athletic management, but also the leadership of the entire organization. He should help save the club from relegation from professional football. MSV is currently in 19th and penultimate place in the 3rd league. The ex-professional succeeds the outgoing managing directors Peter Mohnhaupt and Thomas Wulf.
The former striker was active for the “Zebras” from 1992 to 1994, during which time Preetz played 71 games for MSV, in which he scored 21 goals. In 1993 he celebrated promotion to the Bundesliga with the Meiderich team. After his active career, Preetz initially started as an assistant to the management at Hertha BSC before working there as managing director of sports and communications for over eleven years. Since his retirement in January 2021, Preetz has not been involved in professional football. MSV’s main sponsor “Capelli” is said to have wanted the Düsseldorf native in particular.

“We are very pleased to have gained Michael Preetz, a strong personality who is respected in German football, for MSV. “Michael Preetz is the preferred candidate who will put MSV on a successful path both internally and externally,” said CEO Ingo Wald. “We are convinced that Michael Preetz will steer the fortunes of MSV Duisburg into a successful future with his specialist knowledge and experience. We thank him for his trust in our club and look forward to working together.”
Preetz added: “I am very pleased to be taking over MSV Duisburg as managing director. What particularly impressed me was the tenacity with which Ingo Wald and Ulf Schott fought for me and showed that they were determined to take a new path at MSV and change structures. I would like to actively help with this. The club has an impressive history and I am determined to roll up my sleeves and do my part to lead MSV on a successful path.”
