3rd League: Lackluster against Aue: Regensburg is faltering at the top

As of: February 24, 2024 7:50 p.m

SSV Jahn Regensburg remains in search of the league leader spirit. On the 27th matchday of the 3rd league, the Upper Palatinate team managed neither goals nor significant chances against Erzgebirge Aue.

The fight for the top spot in the 3rd league did not live up to its promise. The former second division opponents Jahn Regensburg and Erzgebirge Aue showed a duel on matchday 27 with little explosiveness and goal chances, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Regensburg urgently needed the win in order not to falter at the top of the table.

The first half was slow, few chances, little pace. Only the home team created one or two opportunities – mostly through striker Noah Ganaus – but there was no sign of the league leaders’ spirit.

Lots of standards for the Saxons

The Regensburg team had one great chance thanks to an Auer capital mistake by Anthony Barylla, who botched a risky back pass and forced his goalkeeper Martin Männel to act. He reacted confidently and cleared his head.

Jahn with Defensive problems

We went into the locker room with a score of 0-0. Regensburg started the second half of the game with defensive problems. Spectacular situations remained in short supply. The Saxons got better into the game minute by minute, worked out several set pieces and seemed to have the home team under control. The goal seemed only a matter of time and the game picked up speed. But both teams were not cold enough in the end, both remained goalless until the end.

It wasn’t until stoppage time that things got exciting again after a corner kick: Marvin Stefaniak took the lead, the ball landed at the Regensburg defense, and goalkeeper Alexander Weidinger was able to clear the strong follow-up shot. It remained 0-0.
