The Lions win against Rot-Weiß Essen in the catch-up game on matchday 18. The victory gives TSV 1860 breathing room in the relegation battle.
The series continues: TSV 1860 Munich remained unbeaten in the fifth game under coach Argirios Giannikis. The Lions secured a 2-0 win against promotion candidate Rot-Weiß Essen in the catch-up game on matchday 18.
The game initially started evenly. Again and again, minor inattention on both sides created a goal threat, but it was only after a good half hour that one of the teams was able to capitalize on a mistake: in the 33rd minute of the game, it was Fynn Lakenmacher who ice-coldly took advantage of a sloppy back pass from Essen’s Eric Voufack. Lakenmacher pushed in in front of Essen’s goalkeeper Felix Wienand. It was the third goal of the season for the 23-year-old.
Guttau with a dream goal
Immediately after the restart, the Lions picked up exactly where they left off: Lakenmacher won the ball from José-Enrique Rios Alonso and laid it on for Julian Guttau. It was worth seeing that he scored from around twelve meters to make it 2-0. Again the Lions benefited from a mistake by the guests.
Quadruple change in food
Essen reacted: With Andreas Wiegel, Ron Berlinski, Moussa Doumbouya and Björn Rother, coach Christoph Dabrowski brought four new players into the game. Nevertheless, the Essenes initially remained harmless. Until the final phase. The Essen team sniffed out the goal, while the Lions kept making mistakes. The Sixzgers were particularly strong in defense, but benefited from the visitors’ lack of converting their chances.
So it remained a 2-0 win for the Lions, who thus gained some breathing room in the relegation battle. The Sixzgers are now five points clear of the relegation places and can – at least for the time being – breathe a sigh of relief.
