Confirmed whereabouts
Third division team FC Erzgebirge Aue is starting the new season with coach Pavel Dotchev. The 57-year-old confirmed this on Saturday after the 1-1 draw against Viktoria Köln. “I have a permanent contract here, that’s the situation,” said Dotchev on “Magenta Sport”. “I can decide how long that goes.” When asked again, he confirmed: “Yes, I’ll stay.”
Dotchev had taken over the “Violets” in the relegation zone during the long winter break and led them safely into the middle of the table. In 18 games under his leadership, Erzgebirge Aue scored an average of 1.61 points. With 43 points after 34 games, the relegation is not mathematically certain, but the gap to the relegation ranks is currently twelve points, which is reassuringly large.
There were also positive reactions from the ranks of the players, who also only found out about the whereabouts of the coach after the game. “We’re happy that he’s continuing, that we can attack again next year,” said attacker Marvin Stefaniak (28).
