First the ice-cold shower in the first minute, then the great relief in the extra time: Erzgebirge Aue prevails against Essen not undeservedly. In a game that was not for the faint of heart.
Erzgebirge Aue started the new year with a victory. After an early deficit, the Violets beat Rot-Weiss Essen 2-1. It was the typical virtues of the Violets that ultimately made the difference between two equally strong teams. In the fourth minute of injury time, the stadium was upside down.
Big celebrations after Mimes Pepic’s winning goal.
Cold shower after 58 seconds
Aue’s coach Pavel Dotchev fielded the team that had scored a point in the last league game in December in Ingolstadt. But the Erzgebirge team wasn’t really up to speed yet, which Essen punished coldly after just 58 seconds. Leonardo Vonic started a solo shot and passed it to Isiah Ahmad Young in the penalty area, who shot it flat from ten meters into the left corner. The cold shower initially had an effect, Essen dominated and benefited from many mistakes in Auer’s build-up game. But no further goals were scored, also because Martin Männel was on hand when Vonic finished in the sixth minute.
Aues Stefaniak can no longer get the ball.
After a quarter of an hour, Aue came into the game much better and had half a dozen good and better chances before the break. But neither Marcel Bär with his headers (28th/29th) nor Marvin Stefaniak with a low shot (30th) failed to get the ball under. Eating was limited to a few needle pricks, but was always dangerous. In the 43rd minute, Bär missed the long overdue equalizer after a Stefaniak corner, so the score went into the locker room with a score of 0-1.
Aue rewards himself for a great fight
After the substitution and a three-minute interruption due to pyrotechnics, the guests again dominated the action. In Essen’s pressure phase, Aue managed to equalize after a quick counterattack. Bär scored from six meters after a great cross pass from Omar Sijaric (61′). After that it was a game of equals. Aue initially looked more dangerous, but was unable to get the ball in the decisive moments. Niko Vukancic and Bär missed good chances. Essen remained dangerous, and substitute Thomas Eisfeld fortunately only hit one of his own players from eleven meters in the 76th minute. In stoppage time, the hosts celebrated when Pepic maneuvered the ball into the right corner from ten meters.
Marcel Bär scores the equalizer.
