One day after coach Rüdiger Rehm was on leave, third-division football club FC Ingolstadt has already signed on to succeed him: after his professional positions at SC Verl and Dynamo Dresden, Guerino Capretti takes over at the Schanzern.

When looking for a new coach, “in addition to the passion for football, the determination in this very challenging and intense league” was the deciding factor for the 40-year-old, according to the club in a press release. Capretti, to be presented this Thursday, replaces Rüdiger Rehm, who was suspended on Tuesday after three defeats in a row.

Capretti stands for an active, offensive style of play

According to FCI sports director Malte Metzelder, Capretti proved during his time at SC Verl that he can develop a team with passion: “Rino has established Verl in German professional football for the long term and impressed with his active and offensive style of play.” Another plus was that he promoted young players with potential. Capretti played his first game as coach on Saturday at home against Borussia Dortmund II (kick-off: 2 p.m./Live ticker in the BR24 Sport Live Center).

With joy and “hard work” to the goal

“I’m very keen to initiate the positive trend reversal from today. It’s about attacking at the front with hard work, joy and energy in order to ultimately – together with the players, the staff, all the employees in the club and last but not least our fans – achieve the set goals achieve goals,” said Capretti. The stated aim of promotion has certainly become less likely after the recent series of defeats. With 31 points, FCI is currently five points behind third-placed 1. FC Saarbrücken.

As a player, Capretti was active for SC Paderborn, Prussia Münster and SC Verl, among others. At SCV, he took over on the sidelines in April 2017 and led the then regional league team to the 3rd division via promotion relegation. After 180 competitive games in five years with Ostwestfalen, they parted ways and the 40-year-old joined Dynamo Dresden in March 2022, which he was in charge of until the end of the season.
