FC Erzgebirge Aue has ended its negative series. After five games without a win, the violets celebrated a 1-0 win at Borussia Dortmund’s reserves thanks to Schikora. The FCE gave the Red Lantern to Bayreuth and is currently 18th in the table.

Improved Auer with more chances

The hosts got off to a better start. The Black and Yellows had their first chance in the 6th minute when Justin Njinmah’s header from the inside left was saved by FCE keeper Philipp Klewin. After 15 minutes, the much more aggressive violets became stronger. Paul-Philipp Besong scored the first opportunity, hitting the side netting with a solid shot from the inside right (18′). In return, Njinmah had the next opportunity to take the lead, but his shot went just wide of the far post (19′). Aue still stayed on the trigger. Tim Danhof tried a flick from the inside right that narrowly missed the left triangle (21). As a result, the Saxons took more and more control of the game. The guests also created further chances through Dimitrij Nazarov (33’/42′) and Besong (38′), but the last precision was missing.

Schikora with a lightning goal after the break

Shortly after the restart, Nazarov put an end to Dortmund’s possession and passed from half-left to Ivan Knezevic into the penalty area, who threw his chest at the onrushing Schikora, whose shot from a central position hissed into the right angle to give the much-acclaimed FCE lead.

After that, Aue remained the dominant team for the time being, but BVB increased the pressure as the game went on. Aue was lucky in the 64th minute when Njinmah put the ball on the crossbar from a tight angle. Even after that it was keeper Klewin who shone as a rock in the surf. Göktan Gürpüz also just missed the FCE goal with a shot from 18 meters in the 81st minute. In added time, things got really dicey again. Again Gürpitz (90′ + 3) and Franz Pfanne (90′ + 3) failed with a double chance from close range to Klewin, who thus secured the longed-for victory.

Carsten Müller (Aue coach):

“It’s very emotional. Nevertheless, we always have to make rational decisions on the bench, detached from emotions. We tried to do that for 90 minutes to help the team. But how passionately they defended it on the pitch today and The way she performed is a reaction that we hoped for and that she showed. Basically, we said we have to stay brave. If you let Dortmund come into play, they can make any team in the league look old . The pressure was increasing, but at the end of the day we had that little bit of luck on our side.”
