3rd division: FC Ingolstadt in fourth place after losing to Viktoria Köln

FC Ingolstadt suffered a 3-1 defeat against Viktoria Köln. The Schanzer were thus pushed out of the relegation place, the direct promotion places are now four points away.

It is a severe damper for FC Ingolstadt’s hopes of promotion. On Saturday, both the runner-up, TSV 1860 Munich, against SpVgg Bayreuth as well as leader Elversberg in Erzgebirge Aue messed up against teams from the bottom of the table. But the Schanzer could not use this invitation on Sunday. In the home game against Viktoria Köln, only a little went together for the Schanzer.

Curious initial phase in Ingolstadt

Even the early stages of this game had it all. First, FC Ingolstadt made a strange mistake: Marcel Costly had played a harmless back pass to his goalkeeper Marinus Funk. The keeper responded with a hard, but fairly flat shot, but the ball got stuck on André Becker, who accepted the gift and (3rd) shot it into the box.

Just two minutes later, referee Patrick Schwengers pointed to the penalty spot. A shot by Pascal Testroet was deflected by the Cologne defender Dietz with his hand into the side. Testroet didn’t need to be asked twice and sunk the ball (7th) powerfully in the right corner.

Ingolstadt keeper Funk: Great save, but then powerless

In the period that followed, both teams played an offensive game. Visar Musliu caught a corner kick from Marcel Costly, which was placed right in the middle, and headed it just wide of the left post (24′). The Ingolstadt keeper (30th) was able to parry a double chance from Meißner with great effort. A short time later, when Simon Handle made it 2-1 (31st), the Schanzer goalkeeper couldn’t do anything. With this score, we went into the break.

Cologne follows up to 3:1

FCI fired the first shot after the change of ends through Testroet (48′). However, Ben Voll defused him with a dive. On the other hand, Funk (57th) prevented David Philipp from making it 3-1 with a foot save. Five minutes later, the right winger (68′) only had to put his foot down for the next Cologne goal after a perfectly delivered through ball. With that he put the lid on for the Viktoria. Ingolstadt had nothing to oppose except for a shot from Testroet (81st) just over the crossbar.

Due to the defeat, Ingolstadt not only missed out on fighting their way up to the top of the table, the Schanzer had to give up the relegation place to SC Freiburg II.
