385 solar panels on the Spermalie vzw De Kade campus in Bruges

The solar panels, 385 pieces, will be placed on six large flat roofs. De Kade is also installing the same number of panels spread over four other campuses in Bruges. Together they will cover forty percent of the electricity demand. De Kade offers special education and support for children and adults with disabilities. Bruges received five times more applications for solar panels in the city center last year than the year before.

“It is a myth that says it is not possible in the city center or they may not be visible from the Halletoren. None of that is true. We want to make people enthusiastic about solar panels. Only the fronts that border on the public domain can be used there. it doesn’t,” says Alderman of Spatial Planning Franky Demon.
