The Dutch national team has won 2-0 on a visit to Poland. The 38-year-old goalkeeper Remko Pasveer made his debut for the Orange squad. At 38 years old, the Ajax player is the oldest player after Sander Boschker (39 years old) to make his debut for the Dutch national team.
Head injury
The game started badly for the Orange. Already in the first minute Teun Koopmeiners collided annoyingly and had to be substituted with a head injury. Daley Blind was close to a goal early in the game, but didn’t hit the ball well. Cody Gakpo managed to score a few minutes later. After a wonderful attack by the Orange, he tapped in from close range.
In the remainder of the first half, the Orange was by far the dominant party. A shot by Steven Berghuis went just wide. Pasveer only had something to do in the 37th minute. He took an easy shot from Zielinski.
in the knife
In the second half, Depay had to be injured early on. He was replaced by former AZ striker Vincent Janssen. The Poles came out of the dressing room strong and former Ajax striker Arek Milik got a huge chance, but missed an unmissable opportunity.
Still, the home team ran into the Orange’s knife. In the 60th minute Steven Bergwijn made the second goal of the evening after a nice bounce with Janssen. In the 75th minute Ajax player Kenneth Taylor came in and that’s how he made his debut for the Orange squad.
The men of national coach Louis van Gaal played the game calmly after the 2-0.
Because of the victory, the Orange squad qualifies for the final four of the Nations League. Only a big defeat at home against Belgium on Sunday can still throw a spanner in the works.
Orange lineup: feather; Timber, Van Dijk, Ake; Dumfries, Koopmeiners (Berghuis/6-Taylor/75), De Jong (De Roon/46), Blind; Memphis (Janssen/52), Gakpo, Bergwijn (Weghorst/75)
