36-year-old base jumper crashes into rock wall in Switzerland | Abroad

The victim, a 36-year-old man from the canton of Valais, had jumped off a mountain wearing a wingsuit at Les Diablerets, a ski resort in the commune of Ormont-Dessus in the canton of Vaud.

Police say he crashed into a rock wall. Rescuers found him lifeless. The police are investigating the case and questioning several witnesses.

Base jumping involves jumping from tall buildings, bridges or mountains. The base jumpers use a parachute and often also a wingsuit, a suit that enables the jumper to ‘fly’ away from the place of drop off.
