The executive vice-president of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, (AMB) Antonio Balmonannounced this Monday that the body will create “a comprehensive metropolitan security system” to promote “coordination and cooperation & rdquor; of the different police forces.
Balmón has ruled out that the plan includes a metropolitan police, and has explained that there is already a system similar to the one announced that for now brings together 12 municipalities of the AMBa prevention system called M7, which among other aspects consists of an application that the socialist has praised as an example of collaboration between territories: “Thanks to it, it has been possible to arrest people two municipalities beyond where the crime has occurred & rdquor ;.

Article 14 contemplates metropolitan action in favor of social cohesion and provides for policies on coexistence.

The new system will involve night security plans in the metropolitan territory, reinforcement of public lighting, the eradication of unsafe spaces, night surveillance, night bus stops on demand, maps of safe spaces and specific plans for coastal areas and spaces natives of the AMB.

The executive vice president of the AMB has stressed that the objective of this metropolitan security system is to gain strength as a whole, act as a powerful interlocutor and coordinate the needs of the 36 municipalities in relation to security. The AMB, said Balmón, will open a dialogue with the Generalitat and the municipalities to pursue this coordination and cooperation.
The purpose is for this metropolitan security system to be a reality in this mandate, that is, for the proposal to be finalized before the 14 months remaining before the municipal elections of May 2023 have elapsed.
Balmón has put his announcement on the table in the framework of a dialogue of the cycle ‘Fer metròpoli’, organized by RethinkBCN, magazine of the Societat Barcelonina d’Estudis Econòmics i Socials de Foment del Treball (SBEES), of Foment del Treball.
