Environmental organization Canopy has announced the names of 35 established brands that have joined its Pack4Good initiative. This wants to reduce the growing ecological footprint of paper packaging.
German online retailer Zalando, Canadian value fashion retailer Ardene and fashion brands Mango and Ba&sh are among the major retailers to have announced their commitment to the initiative, along with three manufacturing operations and two innovators, who join the growing global group.
The organization is calling on these companies to restructure their packaging supply chains to protect forests, as three billion trees are currently felled each year to make paper packaging.
The number of partners now stands at 317, all of whom are committed to Pack4Good’s goals to be achieved by the end of 2022. This includes producing packaging without tapping old and endangered forests, reducing material consumption in general, maximizing next-generation recycled fibers and using FSC-certified wood.
“The companies joining Pack4Good are demonstrating the kind of out-of-the-box leadership style we need to see everywhere – innovative thinking to transform unsustainable paper packaging supply chains, scale solutions and reclaim forests rescue. I am pleased that progressive leaders are taking action to move these breakthrough solutions from their fringes to the fore,” Canopy’s campaign director, Tamara Stark, said in a statement.
